Poles Or Nets?

Poles Or Nets?

Before I was a fisher, the Indians didn't use nets. They used poles! They went out on the river, two in a canoe, when the water was low. One would stand in the bow and hold that pole down until he hit a sturgeon! Then that sturgeon was struck by two or three prongs which were attached to the pole with a rope made from sea-lion guts... the prongs went in and stayed and the sturgeon swam until all the line played out. And the second man hit the sturgeon with a club.
