Stories from Mother

Mother told me about the war. She said that all the church groups worked very very hard for the Red Cross. They sewed. They knitted socks. They made hundreds of quilts.

The Red Cross gave them a medal for all the work they did. She says it was more fun than now – but I think she must be wrong.

And then she told me this funny story about when she was a little girl – a visiting minister was coming to her house for a prayer meeting but on his way he fell into a ditch up to his knees! They had to dry him off and all of his hymn books too!
