Fire in Steveston

Father says town used to be different. He says that there was a big fire after the war and it changed the town quite a bit.

He says that there used to be more canneries and more hotels too. He remembers that the fire burned all day into the night – and that the fire fighters were mostly just throwing buckets of water at the fire.

He even said that you could smell burnt fishes at the canneries... where cans had caught fire and fallen through the floors. I was too little to remember the fire, but he sure does.
